The One the Only: Himalayan Salt

Most of us can recognize this beautiful salt right away. Yes, it’s Himalayan salt. As its name suggests, this type of sea salt is mined in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains, primarily in Pakistan. These salts were deposited by the ancient oceans some 250 million years ago when the Himalayan mountains were being formed!
Because the salt beds were covered by lava, ice, and snow for millions of years, Himalayan salt is free of many modern-day pollutants.
Currently, Himalayan salt is mined for sale in the form of edible salt, lamps, cosmetic products, and other items. I will focus today on the benefits it has on your skin.
Himalayan salt contains different kinds of minerals (up to 84 in fact). Some of these include potassium, iron, calcium, and magnesium. The colour of the salt will vary depending on which minerals it has in abundance.
These various minerals have skin benefiting effects (which are quite different from how our bodies respond when we ingest it). The magnesium in Himalayan salt can be beneficial for reducing skin inflammation, psoriasis or eczema. It is also antimicrobial (kills and stops bacteria and fungus) which can help treat acne, reduce scaling, redness, and irritation, soften and even moisturize your skin.
One of my favourite traits of Himalayan salt is that it is a natural exfoliant. My skin tends to dry out due to lack of sleep, the cold weather, drinking alcohol and sometimes not drinking enough water. So exfoliation is my secret hero to get rid of the dead skin sitting on my face. It also absorbs dirt and grime, and helps to deep clean your pores.
Urban Country Organics Facial Scrub contains this super salt along with other beautiful ingredients including organic cane sugar, vitamin E oil, rosehip oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, avocado oil and essential oils of rose, bergamot and patchouli. It’s a beautiful scrub that leaves your face feeling smooth, clean and hydrated.
