Gua sha, also known as kerokan or coining is part of traditional Chinese medicine. This alternative therapy involves rubbing the skin with a special massage tool to improve circulation and chronic pain.

The most common do-it-yourself treatment is focused on the face because it involves more gentle techniques than those used by a practitioner. People who practice gua sha daily may see results such as improved circulation, reduced wrinkles, improved skin tone and pigmentation, a more defined jawline, decongested sinuses and less puffy eyes. There is also the benefit of tension release. A natural stone is the most recommended material and the application of facial oil before use will ensure the stone glides easily across the skin.

Perfect for the face, feet, legs, arms and body. They can be used on their own or in combination with serums and oils. Can also be used with massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, or reflexology treatments. Use them chilled or heated.
Benefits include:

  • Increased circulation
  • Reduced puffiness
  • Increased lymphatic flow
  • Helps with detoxification and drainage
  • Stimulates acupuncture and reflex points on the body
  • Reduced inflammation
  • To use:

Apply gentle pressure and start in the middle of the face, working upwards and outwards. Repeat this motion a few times in different areas (for example, across your forehead or mouth to cheekbone). Use the small roller under your eyes and around your nose. You can roll it downward on the outside of your face and neck toward your collar bone as well (this helps to massage your lymph nodes).
